Hey,

I've become quite obsesed with the fact that the US goverment is becoming Fascsit. So obsesed that i've started the website afascist.tk and a small anti-fascist/anti-bush movement at my school.

anyways, to the point. Since this is a "think tank" i was wondering if you could just simply list the ways that the USA is heading towrards becoming a fascsit govement. Now dont get me wrong, the USA is not fascist... yet. So, list the ways that the USA is becoming fascist under the incumbent administraion and if you name one that i dont have i'll give you an imganeray cookie.

thanks,
-KJ

I study the Weimar republic, and i can tell you, the similaeities are frightening. One of the things Hitler sold everyone over there on was that the vountry had lost its moral compass and needed to turn to christian ideals and morals. there was even a backlash against gays that was used to promote the nazi way of doing things. This was BEFORE people found out what a bunch of loonies and murderers they were.

here's some interesting stuff on hitler and christianity

sound like anyone else you know? ....at least in some of the examples?

""Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship... voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." --Hermann Goering, president of the Reichstag, Nazi Party, and Luftwaffe Commander in Chief.
Any of that sound familiar?

It's one thing to be critical of the government, but how is the U.S. becoming a 'fascists government'? Democrats & Republicans? Or just the Bush Administration?

America becomes fascist when people who do not support Bush are labeled as unpatriotic or un-American, and blind patriotism and support for the government are considered virtuous.

A few articles for you of varying quality and bias:

Harley Sorensen in the San Francisco Chronicle

informationclearinghouse.info/article3127.htm [informationclearinghouse.info/article3127.htm]

oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm [oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm]

new-enlightenment.com/nazification_step4.htm [new-enlightenment.com/nazification_step4.htm]

It'll take some reading to sift through the "kooks" and the conspiracy theorists out there and find the really insightful political analysis.

Socialist Worker Online says "not fascist" in this article:
socialistworker.org/2003-2/471/471_09_Fascism.shtml [socialistworker.org/2003-2/471/471_09_Fascism.shtml]

[Sorry, didn't see that this thread dated from 2004, but I still think it's important.]
Update: Another link to an article from Sojourners.

Update Feb 19, 2006: A thread on the liberal blog Brainshrub.com where Paul -V- argues that the GOP are not Nazis or Fascists. Several lengthy responses from readers are given arguing both sides.
